At the International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition African Aerospace and Defense Expo 2016 (AAD 2016), held in South Africa at the Airklof airbase near Pretoria from September 14 to September 18, 2016, is a Nigerian private company Proforce Limited (Lagos) that specializes in the production of protective equipment, booking vehicles and the production of light armored vehicles, presented the project of its own armored vehicle Ara ("Thunder") class MRAP with 4x4 wheel formula.

It is reported that the Ara machine was developed on the instructions of the Nigerian army as part of a joint venture established in May 2016 with the Nigerian state defense industry association of Indust Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). Currently, three samples of the Ara are under construction, the first of which should be handed over to the Nigerian military in December 2016 for testing. The Nigerian Ministry of Defense has already issued an order for a series of nine vehicles, which will be launched in early 2017, although changes may be made to the design of these vehicles based on the results of tests of the prototype.
The Ara machine is made using the Tatra chassis and, according to the developer, the project has a total combat weight of 19 tons, with a payload mass of up to three tons. Capacity ten people, including the driver. The length of the vehicle is 6.8 m, width 2.5 m, height 2.5 m, ground clearance 0.25 m. The armored car is equipped with a Cummins diesel engine with a capacity of 218 hp. (2,200 rpm) and Allison six-speed automatic transmission. Suspension of all wheels independent, installed a system of centralized tire pressure monitoring. Declared speed on the highway up to 90 km / h. Fuel capacity 200 liters.
Protection options are not disclosed. Normally, the machine must be equipped with a 12.7-mm machine gun in the turrets of different options (remotely controlled or with a manual drive, half-open or closed). It is planned to install cameras for all-round visibility and smoke grenade launchers.
Earlier, in 2011-2012, Proforce developed and introduced a 10-ton wheeled armored personnel carrier Pf1 with a 4x4 wheel formula that did not fit into the series. The company then developed a lightweight 5-ton Pf2 armored car and its “enhanced” version of Pf3. Pf2 small batches are supplied by Osun police in the Nigerian state and UN forces. The company also announced in 2015 about the development of two more armored vehicles with enhanced mine protection - a lightweight Viper with 4x4 wheel formula and a heavy Boa with 6x6 wheel formula (the latter apparently was actually a localized offer of the famous Nexter TITUS armored car). Proforce also offers the Remoye-006 mini-UAV complex.
