Marshals of the Russian Federation. The history of the creation of the highest rank
In this article we will touch on such a topic as the "Marshals of the Russian Federation and the Soviet Union." In fact, during the time of the Soviets, this rank was given to a relatively large number of officers. At the same time, referring to the topic "Marshals of the Russian Federation", one can definitely say that only one person has become worthy of the highest officer's rank. It was Sergeev I.D. - the only military man in the entire history of the existence of Russia in its current form, who was elevated to this rank.
Next, we will focus on the history of the title. We will talk about the path taken by some military from the private to the marshal, and also list the officers who distinguished themselves in military service and deserved this rank. Before we do this, we note that the rank of marshal appeared in the second quarter of the last century. To be more precise, it was only since 1935 that people who had particularly distinguished themselves in military service were given this degree.
A bit of history
The military, who had the rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union, had enormous advantages, privileges and deserved all respect. But after the collapse of the USSR, a certain confusion arose in the hierarchy of military ranks. It seems that all previously received titles acted and recognized. But, on the other hand, the new country demanded new resolutions and appointments. Everyone knows that the USSR collapsed in 1991, and in this regard, the rank of Marshal himself was removed from the list of military promotions. Only in 1993, the new military rank was officially introduced - the Marshals of the Russian Federation, however, only one person was awarded it, which will be discussed a little later.
Marshals of the Soviet Union
A distinctive feature of all the marshals from the Soviet past of our country is that their career, if you can call it that, developed during the Great Patriotic War. Very many of the officers were the founders of military theory. Understandably, as the acting commanders who participated in military conflicts, they introduced many strategic developments in combat. And now their actions and the foundations of the tactics of command and control of the army are studied in military schools. In total, 41 people received the highest military title in the Soviet Union. And only 36 of them were real military. The remaining 5 were major political figures. The last one who managed to get the insignia of the Marshal of the Soviet Union is D.T. Yazov. Its increase occurred in 1990.
Marshals before the war
In 1935, the title of Marshal of the Soviet Union was awarded to 5 people:
- KE Voroshilov.
- M.N. Tukhachevsky.
- A.I. Yegorov.
- VC. Blucher.
- S.M Budyonny.
Moreover, three of them (MN Tukhachevsky, AI Egorov and VK Blucher) lost their honors during a certain period of time, but were later restored to the rank. All of them were subject to Stalinist repression because of the self-willed statements and the non-acceptance of the exaltation of the leader of the people. Tukhachevsky, Egorov and Blucher were rehabilitated posthumously. In the 50s of the twentieth century, the criminal cases of these famous personalities were raised and all evidence of their falsification was found.
List of Marshals of WWII
The years of the Great Patriotic War brought up many talented commanders, who later also received the highest military appointments. Among them are such famous names as:
- B.M Shaposhnikov.
- GK Zhukov.
- A.M. Vasilevsky.
- I.S Konev.
- KK Rokossovsky.
- R.Ya Malinovsky.
In addition to the military leaders, during those years marshals were also political figures. Among them is I.V. Stalin himself. Also, the highest officer's rank was awarded to an ally of Stalinist repression - L.P. Beria. Interestingly, Beria was deprived of his rank later. The reason for this was the mass repressions against his people and the implementation of organized espionage.
The current Marshal of the USSR - D.T. Yazov
At present, only one living person remains in the rank of the current Marshal of the Soviet Union. It is the former (at that time) Minister of Defense of the USSR - D.T. Yazov. He is an honorary resident of the Omsk region. Like many boys of those times, before he finished schooling, Yazov joined the Red Army. Interestingly, he was only 17 years old, but Dmitry lied a little, saying that he was 18 years old. During the Great Patriotic War he served on many fronts and was wounded twice.
But if after the first injury he was able to return to service, the second one turned out to be more serious. Dmitry received severe head and face injuries. After treatment, he began training young fighters in front-line courses. The title of Marshal of the Soviet Union was already under Gorbachev in 1990.Prior to that, he served as defense minister, as the current acting general of the army, Shoigu. It is noteworthy that this was the last such appointment in the former USSR, but the man is still a marshal to this day.
Marshals of the Russian Federation: a list consisting of only one great military leader
Currently, the title of Marshal of the Russian Federation is also the highest in the hierarchy of military appointments, although it acts fairly conditionally.
- Epaulettes - big star + Russian coat of arms.
- In the buttonholes of oak wreaths (the generals - laurel).
In 1997 (November 11) Yeltsin was appointed by the decree of the post of Minister of Defense I. D Sergeev. Although initially for a month he was only acting. But for the excellent service, the set-top box was abolished, and Sergeev served as Minister of Defense for 4 years. In the same year (November 1997) he was awarded the highest military rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation.
Igor Dmitrievich often spoke with distinguished students. And even when he was already sick and didn’t speak much, he appeared before military school graduates without the usual wand. The cadets did not know about his illness and thought that the famous and only Marshal of the Russian Federation was just slightly hoarse.
It was in 2006, that same year he died.A museum was opened in his honor and a monument was erected. It turns out that in the history of the existence of our country in its present form, Sergeyev is the first and only Marshal of the Russian Federation. Shoigu also has the rank of army general, although he wears a marshal's star on his shoulder straps. The post of Minister of Defense Sergei Shoigu was appointed in 2012.
